Chome Moly steel plate, formally known as Chrome Molybdenum, is usually sold as ASTM A387 or ASME SA387. A387 is alloy steel plate that is designed for use in pressure vessels, process vessels and boilers operating at high temperatures There are ten grades of Chromium Molybdenum steel plate (A387) 2, 12, 11, 22, 22L, 21, 21L, 9 and 91 specified by ASTM/ASME, though A387 grades 2, 21, 21L and 22L are generally not available at steel stockholders and have to be ordered in mill quantities. Chrome moly grades 9 and 91 are also less popular and are often difficult to obtain.
The addition to steel of the alloys chromium and molybdenum bring characteristics which are particularly desirable for units operating in high temperatures. Both alloys improve high temperature strength, molybdenum improves high temperature creep strength, both improve hardenability and there are additional benefits from wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and impact resistance. At the same time a chrome moly alloy is relatively easy to fabricate
Chromium-molybdenum steel is known for its exceptional strength, durability and ability to withstand extreme conditions, making it an essential material for a variety of heavy industrial applications.Chromoly steel is a type of low Alloy Steel which is stronger and more durable, weight for weight, than mild Carbon Steel Plate. The name is derived from the two major alloying elements contained – chromium and molybdenum and Chrome Moly steel is an alloy composed primarily of chromium (Cr) and molybdenum (Mo), with other elements added to enhance its properties. The most common grades include
Chrome Moly Steel, short for chromium-molybdenum steel, is a high-performance alloy known for its exceptional strength, durability, and resistance to extreme conditions 4130 steel, otherwise known as Chromoly or chromium molybdenum steel alloy, is made with 0.8 to 1.1% chromium and 0.15 to 0.25% molybdenum as strengthening agents. Its steel properties make it a versatile metal, especially mechanical properties such as high ductility, good weldability, and machinability.
The combination of chromium and molybdenum increases the Tensile Strength of steel, making it suitable for applications requiring robustness and reliability. Chromium-molybdenum steel maintains its mechanical properties at high temperatures, making it ideal for use in extremely Hot Rolled Steel Plate environments such as power plants and industrial boilers. The addition of chromium gives it excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion, extending the steel's life in harsh and corrosive environments. The durability of chromium-molybdenum steel makes it resistant to wear, reducing the frequency of maintenance and replacement. The steel's hardness and toughness enable it to withstand heavy loads and impacts, ensuring safety and reliability in critical applications. Despite its High Strength Steel, chromium-molybdenum steel welds well, which is essential for building large, complex structures.
Do You Know about SA387 Chrome Moly Steel Plate? It is very useful product in many industries because Chrome Moly Steel Plate widely used in many industries they have a major advantages like Enhanced Performance in High-Pressure Environments and Extended Service Life or Versatility in Applications and Cost-Effective
Chrome-molybdenum steel is specifically designed for high pressures and High Strength making it the material of choice for pressure vessels, reactors and storage tanks. Its resistance to abrasion, corrosion and high temperatures increases its service life, reducing the need for maintenance and replacement, resulting in long-term cost savings. It is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, including power generation, petrochemical processing and heavy-duty construction. Despite its higher initial cost compared to other materials, chrome-molybdenum steel is a cost-effective choice due to its long-term benefits of durability, reduced maintenance and long life.
